Beauty and the Demon by Aurora Ascher🔮 Review
So I first heard of the Hell Bent series when I stumbled across My Funny Demon Valentine on Kindle Unlimited. I was in a book slump at the time, so I gave it a shot and absolutely fell in love. I think book three had just come out, so as soon as I finished the first one, I dove in headfirst. I read all three and then not-so-patiently waited for books four and five.
With that said, I just finished book five, Beauty and the Demon, and it might actually be my favorite of the series, so let’s talk about it.
As always, I try to write my reviews without major spoilers. That said, since this is a more in-depth review, there may be some minor spoilers, especially if you haven’t read the rest of the series yet.
Suyin is a girl after my own heart. Just like Iris, I fall hard for FMCs who understand feminine rage. And I fall even harder for the love interests who learn how to embrace it.
Murmur… Jesus, I don’t even know where to start with this demon. 😆 Obviously, his past clouded my judgment for a while which, by the end of the story, you realize is completely fair. He’s made some extremely questionable choices, but ultimately all for the greater good.
What I really loved was seeing how much growth the former main characters have gone through. Their ability to forgive Murmur and understand why he made the choices he did says a lot about how far they’ve come especially Belial. I absolutely expected that confrontation to end very differently.
Belial. BELIAL. Honestly, for me, he was practically the main character. I’ve loved Belial from the very beginning. Angsty. Broody. Explosive. Lit-er-ally… how could I not love him? 😆
I truly felt like this story was a great setup for his book which, spoiler alert, is coming next. I’m not sure I completely agree with the choice of his heroine yet, but I trust Aurora, and I know she’s going to make it work. She’s just super talented like that. 😉
Swinging back to the actual main characters, Suyin and Murmur have one of the most beautiful love stories. They’re easily in my top ten favorite book couples. Their story is one of sacrifice, literal sacrifice, and forgiveness, and it’s handled in such a meaningful way. You really see the power of forgiveness here, and Aurora does an incredible job of exploring trust and giving it a deeper emotional weight.
Overall, this is a beautiful story. I loved the Beauty and the Beast vibes and the emotional damage because I’m twisted like that. 😆
I absolutely adore the Hell Bent series. Not just because the stories are good, but because Aurora somehow gives this hilarious band of demon brothers a rom-com, cozy-ish vibe. The stakes are high, yes, but she writes it in a way that, even with heavier themes, it never feels overwhelming. And as much as I sometimes relish emotional damage, it’s also nice to read something that makes you laugh.
It’s like a chick flick… for the twisted. 😆
If you made it this far, thanks for spending time with me! Feel free to share your thoughts if you’ve read any of the Hell Bent books, and make sure to stay tuned for my deep dive into the Monster Boyfriend series by Meg Alivien including her brand new novel, Haunt coming March 13th!!
Until then, I’m off to the next last page. 🤎
