A Storm in Every Heart-Kate King🩵🧜🏻♀️ Review
Fun fact: Kate King is actually the very first author I ever ARC reviewed for. I read A Thorn in Every Heart (the book that comes before this one), and I absolutely loved it so I went into this one with high expectations.
And somehow…she exceeded them.
A Storm in Every Heart is a mashup retelling inspired by The Princess Bride, The Little Mermaid, and Pirates of the Caribbean, which sounds like it should be chaotic but it’s not. At all.
I genuinely don’t know how she pulled it off, but she did. The story weaves in so many recognizable elements from these inspirations without ever feeling overcrowded or overwhelming. The flow stays smooth, and the story never loses itself trying to do too much.
That said, the pacing toward the ending felt a little off but not in a way that took away from the overall experience.
This is what I’d call a solid vibes read. It’s perfect if you’re coming off a heavy fantasy or just need something lighter without sacrificing story. I actually read this between ARC reads and after a more intense high fantasy, and it was exactly the reset I needed.
The tone has this great balance of humor, lightness, and a bit of quirkiness. The plot still has serious moments, but the overall feel never gets too heavy. It’s not quite cozy but it is easy to fall into and enjoy.
I’d definitely recommend checking out A Storm in Every Heart and also A Thorn in Every Heart. They’re standalones, so you can read them independently, but both deliver such a great reading experience.
Until the next last page 🤎
