Haunt by Meg Alivien👻 Review

Disclaimer: I received an ARC of this book and am leaving my honest review. I did read and review the other books in the Monster Boyfriend Series. They are in the previous post.

Going into Haunt, I already had a sense of the cozy, spooky atmosphere that the Monster Boyfriend Series delivers. What I didn’t expect was just how much I would end up loving this one.

One of the things I appreciated right away was the tone of Theodore’s POV. Because he isn’t from the modern era, the author uses a slightly different voice for him compared to the other characters, and it really works. It makes his perspective feel distinct while also reinforcing that sense that he comes from another time.

I also really appreciated the representation in Kennedy’s character. Her struggle with reading comprehension hit close to home for me. When I was younger, I struggled with reading because of a learning deficit. My mom loved books and wanted to pass that passion on to me, so she adapted by getting me audiobooks on tape. I can’t even count how many nights I fell asleep listening to Jim Dale narrate the Harry Potter series. Seeing a character with a similar struggle represented in a story meant a lot to me.

The romance in this book also felt refreshing. Theodore has that broody energy we all love in a romantic lead, but he’s also surprisingly open to letting Kennedy in. While that might not build the intense slow-burn tension many romance readers expect, it actually worked really well here. Instead of feeling rushed, their relationship develops in a way that feels natural and healthy.

This book was also just plain fun to read. It’s a quick story, but the pacing is perfect for a cozy spooky romance. It’s lighthearted, sweet, and incredibly easy to get lost in. I ended up reading it in one night because I just couldn’t put it down.

The only small thing I found myself curious about was Kennedy’s backstory. I would have loved to learn more about how she died, though it didn’t feel essential to the story overall. Honestly, that’s probably just my own curiosity more than anything.

Overall, I thought Haunt was a beautiful story. While Howl didn’t fully win me over, the last two books in the series have absolutely made the journey worth it. If you’re looking for a cozy, spooky romance with heart, this one is definitely worth picking up.

I'll see you after the next last page. 🤎
